Not only does the food look unappetizing but Brower food gives me the BIGGEST stomach problems (I’m not going to go in depth with that I’m sure you can assume what I mean) because the food selections are so unhealthy. I remember one time I helped myself to a plate of pasta and found a hair in it. I may be a little dramatic but everytime I go to Brower I go with the intention of eating a whole meal but end up eating a bowl of icecream and an apple because everything looks so gross and unappetizing. There’s kids dying of starvation and you’re bitching about your school’s dining hall food that you pay thousands of dollars per semester for” but Brower food is truly UNBEARABLE. I know some of you might be thinking “Ugh Mary Kate you’re so privileged. Although Brower is super close to my dorm, I avoid it at ALL costs even when Im super hungry. Living on College Avenue, Brower Commons is the most convenient place for me to go grab a bite to eat before classes or fuel up before a big exam. So today we’re going to talk about ~Brower Commons~ aka the worst dining hall at Rutgers University. When I finally caught my breath I thought to myself “Mary Kate, it’s Brower Commons what more do you expect?”įor real though I sometimes would rather eat monkey brains than the food that’s served at Brower, some of the meals are N A S T Y! I couldn’t bear it anymore, “AHHH” I screamed as I bolted through the doors of Brower commons. I looked down at my plate and automatically felt nauseated by the rotting stench of the monkey brain. When I put my plate on the table, the worker gave me a big serving of monkey brains and said “enjoy” with a sickening smile. The Brower workers were serving monkey brains, bacon flavored crickets, rotten eggs, and fried eyeballs. I searched through my dorm to find that all my granola bars were consumed which meant that I had to endure the horrors of Brower food DUN DUN DUN! As I made my way to the food line at Brower I had a little peak of what was being served and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing with my own eyes. I looked around my dorm for any breakfast foods to avoid Brower breakfast at all costs. There are also convenience stores on each campus where you can grab soda and candy.I woke up from my long slumber to a violent growling in my stomach. The Rutgers Student Center, on College Avenue, has a food court area downstairs. Livingston Plaza has a large variety of shops, including a Starbucks. You can purchase meals at any of the venues listed above and a few others located in each student center. If you don’t get a meal plan or live off-campus, there are plenty of ways to get food. On Cook/Douglass, there is the Cook Café, Douglass Café, and Pizzeria Uno. On College Avenue, there is CABfare on Paterson Street. On Livingston, there is the Rock Café, S’barro, and Kilmer’s Market in the student center. On Busch, there is Woody’s by the pharmacy buildings and the Knight Wagon which only appears on Wednesdays. That could be a muffin or a sandwich at most places. This varies by venue, but they will typically require a “center of the plate” item.

There are several places that you can use a swipe from your meal plan as a certain dollar amount. Meal Plans also come with “guest swipes” for if your family/friends are visiting. You can purchase up to 285 swipes with a meal plan and subsequent Mini Blocks after that. So this part just depends on how much you plan on eating. Plans are named based off the total number of times you can “swipe” into the dining hall (and sometimes elsewhere). You can use your RUconnection card, AKA your swipe card, to eat at the four dining halls: Brower, Busch, Neilson, and Livingston.įreshmen living on-campus are required to get at least a 210 Plan.

Most underclassmen find the dining halls to be the easiest way to get food on campus. Rutgers is a huge university so it needs an equally massive Dining Services Department (one of the largest in the country). Besides studying and hanging out with friends, eating is a huge part of our day at school. We need the fuel to have enough energy for daily college life! Here is everything you need to know about eating at Rutgers University in order to get food in your belly.
